چکیده

The application of information retrieval techniques in interactive environments requires systems capable of efficiently processing vague queries. To reach reasonable response times, new data structures and algorithms have to be developed. In this paper we describe an approach taking advantage of the conditions of interactive usage and special access paths. To have a reference we investigate text queries and compared our algorithms to the well known “Buckley/Lewit” algorithm. We achieved significant improvements for the response times.

Spoken query processing for interactive information retrieval

It has long been recognised that interactivity improves the effectiveness of Information Retrieval systems. Speech is the most natural and interactive medium of communication and recent progress in speech recognition is making it possible to build systems that interact with the user via speech. However, given the typical length of queries submitted to Information Retrieval systems, it is easy t...

The Impact of the Objective Complexity and Product of Work Task on Interactive Information Searching Behavior

Background and Aim: this study aimed to explore the impact of objective complexity and Product of work task on user's interactive information searching behavior. Method: The research population consisted of MSc students of Ferdowsi university of Mashhad enrolled in 2012-13 academic year. In 3 stages of sampling (random stratified, quota, and voluntary sampling), 30 cases were selected. Each of ...

IRSJ: incremental refining spatial joins for interactive queries in GIS

An increasing number of emerging web database applications deal with large georeferenced data sets. However, exploring these large data sets through spatial queries can be very time and resource intensive. The need for interactive spatial queries has arisen in many applications such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for efficient decision-support. In this paper, we propose a new interacti...

Efficient Vague Joins Processing in the VQS

Joins are among the most expensive operations in database management systems (DBMSs). In the context of the VQS (Vague Query System), which is a flexible query answering system built on top of DBMSs to provide them with similarity search/retrieval capabilities, vague joins are prohibitively expensive in terms of both IO-cost and CPU-cost because they must undergo intermediate processing steps w...

Finding Relevant Passages in Scientific Articles: Fusion of Automatic Approaches vs. an Interactive Team Effort

This paper presents our approach to retargeting the information retrieval systems designed and/or optimized for retrieval of MEDLINE citations to the task of finding relevant passages in the text of scientific articles. To continue using our TREC 2005 fusion approach, we needed a common representation for the full text biomedical articles to be shared by the four base systems (Essie, SMART, Eas...
